Biography
As an artist and an Iranian woman I’m concerned with the issue of identity in relation to various contexts such as gender, history, culture and politics. In my work, I deconstruct historical and cultural elements such as Farsi text and Iranian-Islamic motifs as these hold cultural and historical connotations. Employing traditional motifs encodes the significant influence of history, tradition and culture on the development of my identity.
My work is based on my life experience; therefore it has an autobiographical nature. I consider myself a storyteller. I believe through telling my life story, my personal experience, I will involve larger groups of people who lived the same experience. I intend to explore new, unconventional ways of storytelling through using different media and techniques. My work employs different media from 2D to 3D including video and sound. These variances in process and aesthetic allow me to explore both the analytical and intangible nature of the history of my country.
